  • Demonstrates willingness to experiment with new ideas or paradigms.

  • Proactively identifies new ways for the company to win in the marketplace.

  • Rapidly and effectively brings ideas from concept to reality.

  • Is curious; has a broad perspective; stimulated by new experiences.

For all Managers and above only

  • Fosters an atmosphere that inspires and motivates others to think creatively; maintains an entrepreneurial spirit that breaks down barriers to promote new and creative ways to meet goals; recognizes and rewards innovation.

  • Makes it “safe” for others to present and try new things; coaches others to learn from failures.

  • Facilitates effective brainstorming; prioritizes ideas effectively based on potential impact and feasibility.

  • Is unimaginative; confined to traditional thinking.

  • Instinctively rejects new ideas or paradigms from others; and/or persuade others that they will not work.

  • Does not seem interested in finding new ways to help the company to win in the marketplace.

  • Is unable or slow to bring ideas from concept to reality.

  • Lacks curiosity; has a narrow perspective; avoids new experiences.

For all Managers and above only

  • Fosters or tolerates an atmosphere of closed-mindedness; does not encourage the adoption of new thinking; shows rigidity in approach to work; fails to recognize and reward innovation.

  • Causes excessive fear of failure; blames others for failures from experimentation.

  • Seldom provides opportunities for team to brainstorm; pursues unsuitable ideas; does not prioritize effectively.
